Last week, I had the privilege of hosting the first in a series of innovation events for dental organisations at BMet College as part of the Innovation Navigator Programme, funded by Innovate UK. This event in collaboration with Adam Marsh, founder of Dental Audio Notes and a valued Innovation Partner at BMet College, brought together dental practitioners, dentists, and dental nurses to explore cutting-edge advancements in AI-powered dental record-keeping.

As I welcomed attendees to our state-of-the-art Dental Tech Suite at the Matthew Boulton campus, I couldn’t help but feel proud. This wasn’t just another workshop—it was a glimpse into the future of dental care and to be honest, just 6 months prior I knew nothing about the subject Dentistry!

My Unexpected Journey into Dental Tech

Before I started my role as Innovation Manager for BMet College, I was told during my interview that the project would focus on dental organisations, Dental organisations? Really? Other than religiously brushing my teeth twice a day, using my trusty tongue scraper as part of my dental hygiene routine, and flossing after indulgent meals, I couldn’t claim to know much about the dental world—let alone dental technology.

But did I let this gaping hole in my knowledge deter me? Absolutely not. If anything, I saw it as an opportunity to dive headfirst into something new and challenging. Determined to immerse myself, I discovered that the Dental Technology Expo was happening right in Birmingham at the NEC—a sign, surely! Without hesitation, I signed up, ready to network, learn, and champion the ambitious vision for BMet College.

Dentistry EXPO

The Dental Tech expo was the perfect opportunity to learn more and that's where I met Adam Marsh, founder of Dental Audio Notes, Our conversation became my route into the dental tech world. After our initial meeting, Adam and I had several calls to discuss how we could collaborate, which eventually led to him visiting BMet College to tour our impressive dental facilities. This visit was the spark that ignited our first major collaboration—a live demonstration of Dental Audio Notes (DAN) in action.

Dr Rajput and Adam Marsh

Adam had the brilliant idea to present DAN in an environment and scenario that dentists would instantly relate to—a real-world clinical setting. With the help of the college’s dental expertise and a few strategic connections, we brought this vision to life. We enlisted the support of Dr. Rajput, a professional dentist and founder of Kingfisher Dental, along with a patient and a skilled dental nurse.

Together, they carried out a live clinical dental check-up, showcasing two parallel methods:

  1. The traditional approach of manual note-taking.

  2. The cutting-edge AI-driven Dental Audio Notes tool.

By recreating a familiar dental scenario, we demonstrated not only how the technology works but also how seamlessly it integrates into everyday practice. This approach sparked an engaging and lively dialogue among the audience, who were clearly intrigued by the potential of AI in dentistry. Attendees posed thoughtful questions and shared their perspectives, prompting rich discussions around some of the more complex topics surrounding AI adoption—compliance, privacy, upskilling, and the potential for API integration and creating interoperable dental systems that could transform operations across the sector.

The live comparison of traditional manual note-taking and AI-powered record-keeping brought the benefits of Dental Audio Notes (DAN) to life. Dr. Rajput and his skilled dental nurse were visibly impressed by how DAN streamlined the record-keeping process, significantly reducing interruptions and inefficiencies. The ability to capture accurate, compliant records in real-time without detracting from patient interaction resonated strongly. By the end of the demonstration, it was clear that the pair saw DAN not as a futuristic concept but as an essential tool ready to revolutionise dental practices today.

"I can see the benefits of using AI, its saved me time, creating more accuracy and allowed me to concentrate on patient care." - Dr.Rajput, Kingfisher Dental.

The event also provided an invaluable opportunity to connect with dental practices eager to improve their business operations through technology. I had the chance to speak with practitioners and representatives at various stages of their digital transformation journeys—from those beginning to explore AI integration to those actively seeking solutions to upskill their teams, modernise systems, and foster better work cultures. These forward-thinking professionals were determined to boost productivity, enhance efficiency, and stay ahead of the curve in a rapidly evolving industry.

Through the Innovation Navigator Programme, we are committed to creating platforms where industry professionals and technology developers can come together to push boundaries and reshape industries. At BMet College, our mission is unwavering: to empower practitioners with the skills, tools, and support they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

Why These Events Matter

At its core, the Innovation Navigator Programme is about transformation—technological and cultural. Industries like dental care, which may not traditionally see themselves as tech-driven, are discovering the power of innovation to improve processes, enhance outcomes, and redefine their potential.

Dental Audio Notes is just one example of how AI can make a tangible difference. Being part of this journey is not only exciting but a privilege.
